Our Approach

At Ember Vale, we believe that meaningful independence is achieved through trust, collaboration and empowerment. Our relationship-centred approach places the Young Person at the heart of everything we do.

Each Young Person is assigned a dedicated well-matched Key-Worker who provides consistent guidance, co-ordinates their support plan and monitors progress. Weekly Key-Working sessions are used to review goals, reflect on achievements and set new challenges. These sessions create a sense of ownership and accountability, helping Young People to recognise their progress and take pride in their development.

We follow a structured, evidence-based model that integrates:

  • Person-centred planning, ensuring every support plan reflects individual goals and preferences.

  • Co-production, where Young People actively shape decisions about their lives, activities and environment.

  • Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) to promote stability and emotional growth.

  • Safeguarding and risk management, ensuring safety without restricting independence.

Staff are trained to support through encouragement rather than direction. By allowing Young People to take safe risks and learn from experience, we help them develop real confidence. This balance of freedom and guidance is what makes our approach sustainable.

Digital Independence, Life Skills and Move-On Passports

To support modern independence, Ember Vale provides digital life skills sessions, teaching Young People how to use technology safely; from online banking and utility management to digital appointments and job applications.

Each Young Person has a Move-On Passport, which tracks their achievements across skills such as budgeting, home management and self-care. This becomes a tangible record of progress and demonstrates readiness for independent living.

Community Engagement

Community connection is a vital part of every Young Person’s development. Ember Vale actively partners with local organisations, charities and learning providers in Bexley and Bromley to create opportunities for volunteering, training, recreation and social inclusion.

We collaborate with services such as Bexley Voluntary Service Council, Bromley Youth Employment Hub, and Mind in Bexley, ensuring that Young People can access community resources that enhance their well-being and sense of belonging. We also encourage participation in local sports clubs, arts groups and volunteering projects, helping Young People to develop confidence and purpose.

These local partnerships allow us to design personalised independence journeys that don’t just prepare Young People for adulthood, they connect them meaningfully to their community as active participants.
